If you do not have a Will or the Will you have is not valid then you are classed as INTESTATE

In essence if you die without a will, the law says who gets what.

The rules of intestacy specify a rigid order of who should benefit from the estate of an intestate
person. This order is as follows:

  • Spouse or civil partner receive the first £270,000 and 50% of the balance

The remainder is shared as follows. (First your children)

  • Children/grandchildren
  • Parents
  • Brothers and sisters
  • Grandparents
  • Uncles and aunts
  • The consequence of not making a Will

If you are not married your partner may not get anything

If you have children the courts may decide who is appointed as the guardians.

Your estate could be distributed to relatives you would not have chosen
